Dear Tapestry Supporters,
As we approach the end of the school year, we wanted to share some exciting updates with you.
Charter Renewal
After many months of hard work, Tapestry has received renewal of our charter for a second term, which will begin in the 2019-2020 school year. The renewal was unanimously approved by both our local authorizer, the DeKalb County Board of Education, and then by the Georgia Board of Education. We remain committed to continuing the great work we have started, creating an innovative and inclusive secondary school model that meets the individual needs of its diverse learners.
New Director of Development

Dr. Kantrice Rose
We are delighted to announce that we have hired a new Director of Development, Kantrice Rose, PhD. Kantrice comes to Tapestry with nearly 20 years of experience in development. She received her BA in Government from the College of William and Mary, her MBA from New York Institute of Technology, and her PhD in Organizational Leadership from the University of Maryland, Eastern Shore. Her experience includes annual campaigns, corporate and foundation relations, special events, and marketing and communications at nonprofits, including Emory University, 21st Century Leaders Inc., Premier Academy, Partnership Against Domestic Violence, and Georgia State University. Welcome Dr. Rose!
The Power of Partnership

Student Diego Carraway Van Goodman welcomes guests; Student Musicians
On April 8, 2019, we held our annual Partner Appreciation Luncheon, which is one special day in which we can formally thank our amazing partners for all the ways they support the school. The theme this year was growth: our commitment to fostering academic, social, and emotional growth in each and every student and the growth the school has seen in the past five years as a direct result of our partnerships. Guests enjoyed lunch in the Library, music from talented Tapestry students, and a tour of the school led by Principal Barbara Boone and Assistant Principal Matt Tyson.
We were honored to host the DeKalb County School Board, our local authorizer and most critical partner; the Marcus Autism Center and Marcus Foundation; Georgia State University; Mercer University; the Alliance Theatre, the High Museum, and the Atlanta Symphony; Emory University, Emory Autism Center, Emory School of Nursing, and Emory Medical School; and the Georgia Charter Schools Association (GCSA). GCSA received a very special acknowledgement for the invaluable support they’ve given us from the very beginning. We love our partners!

Tapestry’s 5th Anniversary Spring Auction BASH (Be A Student’s Hero) was a huge success! Guests enjoyed delicious Latin-themed food from Chef Britt Cloud, first-class jazz from Matt Miller and friends, and over 50 exciting items to bid on. Thanks to the dedication of a small but mighty volunteer committee and the generosity of our guests, we were able to raise $35,000 to directly benefit our students. At the end of the evening, Tapestry’s dear friend and Super-Volunteer Grant Perry of Dimensional Design was crowned “King” for all that he has done for the school.

Commitment to the Arts
All students at Tapestry, regardless of skill level or experience, participate in fully inclusive music, visual arts, and drama programming. Through our robust partnerships with the Alliance Theatre, the Atlanta Symphony, and the High Museum, students are afforded many opportunities to experience the arts in unique ways. Recently, the High Museum highlighted our partnership on their blog.
Arts Showcase at Woodruff
Another enriching experience occurred on May 2, 2019, when the students in our arts program were invited to showcase their talent at the Woodruff Arts Center.

Our Music Director, Mr. Matt Miller, is always seeking opportunities for his music students to perform in the community. If you would like to invite our students to perform at an event, please contact Mr. Miller at mmiller@tapestrycharter.org.
Tapestry’s 1st Graduating Class

As we approach the end of our 5th year, we are eagerly anticipating the graduation of our first class of seniors, which will take place on June 2, 2019 at the Georgia World Congress Center. This will be a joyous celebration for the graduates and their families, proud teachers and staff, and all who have been fortunate enough to touch the lives of these incredible young men and women. Congrats Class of 2019!
We want to sincerely thank each of you for the countless ways you support us as we make strides toward fulfilling the promise of Tapestry.
