In August, Tapestry was awarded a grant from Scotts Miracle-Gro’s Gro More Good Foundation to expand our gardening efforts in our middle school with two hydroponic units. Hydroponic gardening is a sustainable gardening method that brings optimal growing conditions and oxygen to plants so they grow steadily when provided with proper nutrients and light. No soil is needed for seeds to grow, and plants grow quickly (oftentimes in less than a month).
Last week, we received two additional units (four in total) to increase the diversity and capacity of our garden. Now, Tapestry students are able to grow year-round indoor gardens. Harvested produce will be donated to local food pantries and used for a salad bar for students.
